In the ninth match of the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Peshawar Zalmi defeated Multan Sultans by 120 runs in the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Ali Raza took four wickets, and Arif Yaqoob took three. Despite Usman Khan’s 44-run knock, the Sultans’ batting line-up could only manage 107 runs in 15.5 overs against a daunting 228-run target. With just 27 runs on the board, the Sultans’ innings got off to a rocky start when they lost their captain, Mohammad Rizwan (15), on the first delivery of the fourth over.
Usman joined Shai Hope in the middle after the initial setback and added 36 runs for the second wicket to keep the Sultans in contention.

Shai Hope (20) was defeated by Arif Yaqoob in the seventh over of the crucial partnership. The Sultans lost their remaining eight wickets, including Usman, their mainstay, for just 44 runs, and were bowled out for a meager 107 after his dismissal sparked a match-defining collapse.
With a 22-ball 44, Usman remained Sultans’ leading scorer with four fours and three sixes. Zalmi’s best bowler was Ali Raza, who took four wickets for just 21 runs in four overs.
Mitchell Owen struck twice, while Arif Yaqoob took three wickets. The former champions were reduced to 5/2 in 2.1 overs as both their openers were out, so Zalmi’s decision to bat first appeared to have backfired.

Babar Azam and Saim Ayub were killed cheaply. Mohammad Haris, a wicketkeeper, joined Kohler-Cadmore in the middle and launched an incredible comeback after the initial slump.
The Sultans’ bowlers were dominated by the duo, who added 79 runs for the third wicket with just 31 deliveries to spare.
After scoring 45 runs off 21 deliveries, including four fours and three sixes, Haris, the stand’s main aggressor, was bowled out by Ubaid Shah in the eighth over.
Kohler-Cadmore and Hussain Talat added 53 runs for the fourth wicket for Zalmi before Kohler-Cadmore was bowled by Michael Bracewell, who had earlier bowled Ayub, Zalmi’s opening batter. With a 30-ball 52 that included two fours and five sixes, the Englishman maintained his position as Zalmi’s leading scorer.
When Talat was run out by Iftikhar Ahmed in the subsequent over, Zalmi suffered yet another significant setback to their batting efforts.
With three fours and a six, the left-handed batter made a significant contribution with a 29-ball 37. Zalmi had fallen to 143/5 in 14.5 overs after his dismissal, but a sensational partnership between Mitchell Owen and Abdul Samad increased their total past 200 runs.
Until David Willey struck out Owen in the final over, the pair added 73 runs for the sixth wicket. With the assistance of one four and four sixes, he scored 34 off 15 attempts.
In contrast, Samad failed to score on the third delivery of the final over after scoring 40 runs off 14 deliveries, including four fours and three sixes. Ubaid Shah, Bracewell, and Willey each took two wickets for Sultans, and Iftikhar Ahmed contributed with one scalp
